| Mikael's words: Ogden Flood started out as a duo with former Barbie Loves Ken singer/guitarist Ola Lundin and me. We made up distorted popmusic heavily influenced by Pavement and Archers of Loaf in my bedroom and recorded it either on boombox or 4-track cassette. We shared equal time playing guitar/vocals and drums. Johan Dahlbeck was recruited to play drums on our first demo and he was just perfect. The happy trio did a couple of shows and recorded a second demo before we were forced to brake up the band due to studies. I will never forget the joy Ogden brought me. Royal Cassette was my solo-project while playing in Ogden Flood. I bought my first 4-track cassette recorder and started to experiment with sounds and music. This machine gave me so much joy and valuable experience for coming recordings. The last two songs on Ogden’s “Fye Fye Sound” are really from the R.C. archive. Ola was blown away by these tracks and wanted them as extras on the demo. The Royal Cassette archive is probably holding over 200 titles, recorded on 4-track cassette machines. Volksradio was the first band I played drums in. I really had no idea how to work it but I tried to do as I’d done before on my own recordings, just feel the way through. Volksradio was Richard Schicke (vocals/guitar), Henrik Jönsson (guitar) and Andreas Karlsson (bass) and me on drums and backing vocals. The band existed in the year of 1998 and broke up for the same reason as Ogden Flood, someone had to go study somewhere out of town. We had a fun time, though the consequences of rehearsing in a damp and mushroom filled basement may haunt us forever. Richard Schicke is now the songwriter of Björns Vänner. Dustin Diamond, or Dusustin Diamante!, became Ola Lundin’s solo-project after Ogden Flood. His music can be explained as long imaginative epos, shifting in tempo and melodies. Or, the structure may be easier but with much finesse in both text and music. We started to record the amazing “The Accomplishment…” in 1998 and finished it in 2001. Ola recorded guitar and vocals for four songs and then moved out of town. When he returned home three years later the songs were ready to be mixed. I had been given total freedom to arrange the songs. I contributed with piano, organs, bass, drums, electric guitar, slide guitar, mandolin, ukulele, balalaika, vocals, percussion, tambourine and ebow. M. Evangelico, or Marcus Grönwall, is a regular customer at Homelandhome. I have recorded songs with him since the beginning. We started to play guitar at the same time and I always documented our progression on boomboxes and cassette decks, playing mostly covers of our current favourite songs. Now however, Marcus writes honest gospels. He speaks his mind of love or despair and lets his acoustic guitar speak with him. I have played various instruments on his recordings. Sara Culler and I have recorded a couple of songs together through the years. She is quite unique in her style of songwriting and she’s got a sweet and clear voice. Sara also sings harmonies on Homeland’s “Songs About Living” and David and the Citizens “For All Happy Endings”. Testbild!, or Petter Herbertsson, has played piano on a couple of Homeland’s recordings. His piano has a really exquisite watery sound. Now it can be heard on this tune as well. It’s due to be released on the next Testbild! album. The debut from Testbild! is out on Radio Khartoum. Check it out! Magnus Bjerkert plays trumpet and various instruments in David and the Citizens. He also plays in a band called Sharif. We recorded this song over a night. I played drums and percussion and Magnus played everything else. Sparrow asked me to record their first demo. The band was a duo at that time and wanted a full band arrangement to their folk-style songs. Anders Hansson was the lead singer and guitarist and Martin Anderberg played solo guitar and sang b-vox. Anders laid down the bass lines, harmonica fills and some organ. I played drums, harmonium and sang b-vox. Andrev Bergström and I met when he opened for Homeland and David and the Citizens in Norrköping, 2000. I think it was his first show ever and he was nervous as hell. His twenty-minute set was mesmerizingly sweet. I was given the opportunity to record a couple of the songs with him in Malmö a few months later for a 7” release. The project became a lot like what I did with Dustin Diamond. First I recorded Andrev’s voice and acoustic guitar and then I arranged the songs playing bass, drums, organs and melodica. Sarek de Lux was an instrumental experiment taking form in 2002. Classic rock and roll crafted by two electric guitars, drums, bass, and no vocals. Short lived and unpretentious. |
